Happy Team, Successful Business: Why You Should Invest in Staff Wellbeing

This blog was written based on 40% contributions - funding contributions are now at 30%.

“We spend so much of our lives at work just ‘getting by’. Why not be happy? I mean, actually happy?” Adrian O’Neil, Business Engagement Advisor

To celebrate both World Mental Health Day and National Work Life Week, we’re talking about why employee wellbeing is so important and what you can do to support your workforce.

Changing Priorities

Employee wellbeing has been catapulted to the forefront of everyone’s mind in recent years, with the pandemic forcing us to change how we work and confront mental health in a new way. Between 2021 and 2022, work-life balance springboarded from 10th to 2nd in the UK’s Top Employers’ list of development priorities1, quickly taking the issue from token to top consideration. This is being reflected in employer initiatives, with 98% of Top Employers actively raising awareness of emotional wellbeing and 67% getting their employees involved in the design of their wellbeing strategies [1].

60% of jobseekers rank ‘employee support’ as a top priority [2] and over two-thirds of 18-29-year-olds who left their jobs in the last year cited poor mental health as a factor [3]. With cultures shifting and more employees than ever prioritising their own wellbeing, businesses can no longer afford to take a purely reactive approach to mental health in the workplace.

Investing in Your Team

According to analyses carried out this year, employers should expect an average return of £5.30 for every £1 they invest in mental health initiatives3. So you have to ask yourself, can you afford not to invest in the wellbeing of your team?

Even better – we can help you invest for less with a 30% funding contribution to training and consultancy.
